Howdy, all:
Y'all know I promised I'd be doing some more cogitating on a possible Savage Rally for next year, probably at Turner Bend on the Mulberry River. Well, been doing just that... then "inspiration" hit...
How about if it took place during an already-existing biker event??? Our local ABATE district (4) has been sponsoring the "River Bash" every summer down there for about 15 years now; a three-day rally/party/rides thing. Went this year, and though it was HOT, had a blast!
You don't have to be an ABATE member to attend, ya just get a few bucks knocked off the registration fee. (15 bucks instead of 20, so no biggie) That fee pays for your campsite for three days and the BBQ/band/party on Saturday night, so it's a pretty good deal. Our local district is all for it, as it increases attendance. Attendance was down this year a bit, around 250 bikes. Has been around 400 before, but I think the advance forecast for really hot weather kept quite a few at home. (Wusses!) So it gets hot, the river's right there and it's cooooool water! Every year there's a couple of groups that come and set up their own little "neighborhood" at the bash, and I see no reason why we couldn't do the same. This way, if not many "Savages" actually show up, nobody's out $$$ for reserving the campground, etc, etc. And if a LOT of Savages show up, well, all the better! Plenty of room down there. And if yer just not into sleeping in a tent, there's motels nearby, even one cabin right on the river we could rent in advance as "HQ" if enough
people commited to it.
So, lemme hear from you folks if this sounds interesting to ya, OK?
Cheers!
